I know you got this from that National Geographic, but I like it.I have heard from a friend that studies phsycology, that people who have small pupils are untrustworthy.Hmmm....

Welcome on gfxartist ^0^

One word of warning, drawing pictures that are literally based on other pictures without mentioning you used a reference is A not in accordance with the rules B can get you lots of nasty remarks. It's not appreciated here just check the endless discussions over this in the forums.

But hey you seem to have talent so keep it up and i hope to see more from you

Sorry for not mentioning the reference .. I thought everybody knew who she is so I forgot to mention :)

She might be untrustworthy ( after all the trouble in her country ) but those eyes ... they're really beautifull, besides I kinda like those eerie small pupils ;)

small pupils often just equate to a bright lightsource lol..
nice work :)

The original photo is much better...

Pursue your own ideas, copying photos only teaches you how to copy photos.

"The original photo is much better"

wow...thats pretty bold and a little out of taste if you ask me

"copying photos only teaches you how to copy photos."

exactly...and keep using them silenz, a good artist knows he/she needs reference but you still need the fundimentals first - basic shapes...im doing it still...those damn perspective ellipses =).

when you get to the point where you want to make your own pieces/compositions...thumbnail it...get your lighting set up...grab a subject and take a "Photo"....drawing everyday will only make you better....and photo reference , live drawing...on sight drawing will teach how light, other objetcs etc interact with one another....you should also study great or artists you like...draw from them....this will get you to understand thier color sence or compostion...so when you go to make your own original you can take what you have learned and apply it....I gave this a +5...good values great proportions...keep it up and I cant wait to see the next piece...

I feel better now

Ahh Mr. Arenhaus...nice to see you being a complete PONCE again! :) Tell me, would it perhaps please you to see our Afghan girl in the form of a wild cat with ballerina-type legs...maybe even with her johnson poking out....no, no that would be a little 'too' artistic I feel....such subject matter is only reserved for the masters of the middle east. Mind you, I was on safari the other day, and those camp feline's you see fit to paint really do look better in real life!...Infact now I think about it, anything I've ever copied has looked better....in real life. Sod it....I think I'll quit art and join the ballet......you coming?

HAHA, I actually came to this image looking up the person
who left a negative feeling comment on another image,
saying it was just a paint over--then I see that commentor did this,
???????????????????? That's rather a strange attitude ,
You must be a REAL artist then? (paint)

Silenz

 05/23/04 @666

Wahaha .. a paint-over is not the same as a drawing of a picture ..

Sorry for the short and bald critique .. I didn't mean to crack those images ..
Just tell me which work I've criticized .. I'm sure I can point you why I wrote it .. :)

good job, I don't know any artist who doesn't use photos as reference. It's the number one rule at our school...always go back to the source, wether photo or still life, if you are unsure. We have a backup photo of our live model to make sure she goes back in the right spot for the pose.

But I think what Arenhaus meant is the just copying photos fully is of little practical use to the artist. Copying a still life arrangement as a painting, where is it three dimensional and you can comprehend the shapes and colors better with your eyes, instead of the camera's eyes, which are different from a human beings, you will produce a more life like piece. In your case I reccomend doing the old italian technique of getting a solid white cast and copying it side by side in the sight size technique. This will give you a solid base in value, which is what you are trying to grasp here. I think you did a good job, btw. I hope you are going to school ....tone down those hard edges on the cloth, needs more gradiation, use CHARCOAL to get the full gamut of tones...unless this is digital, in that case you need to gradiate a little better.
